Add a little music to your shopping environment
Music has been proven to reduce stress and therefore can be used to enhance the shopping experience. Problem is everyone has different tastes, so it’s really up to you to decide what is appropriate for your customers. The best and least expensive) thing to do is to have a stereo set to the local radio station that you advertise on.
Pay attention to detail
Great retailers don’t let their stores get messy. They don’t leave the same end caps up forever. They do make sure the shelves are stocked. They do make sure displays are always top-notch. They know that a few badly merchandised areas can make the store look bad.
Let your store make a good first impression
Go to the front of your store and stand just inside the door. This is how a first-time customer sees your store. What is the first thing you notice? The merchandising at the front of the store should be top-notch. Department signs at the back should be easy to read. If something messy or unappealing stands out, change it.
Know your business
Too many businesses suffer not because the customers aren’t buying, but because the owners fail to take care of the financial side of the store. Great retailers work hard to understand the accounting end of the business so they never get into trouble.
